Book by Scarisbrick, Diana,  Rings: Jewelry of Power, Love and Lovalty, Thames & Hudson, 2007.

This early diamond ring exemplifies a form of the seven-stone ring dating from 400 years ago. The demand for diamonds far exceeded the supply, jewelers could not rely on the impact of one large specimen, but made the best of what was on the market. Set with three smaller stones to each side of the larger central stone, massed together across the finger the seven stones are displayed to great effect. This example dates to the first half of the 18th century.
