Victorian Era Gilded Silver Buckle Locket

Victorian era metal buckle locket, in base metal. The buckle motif represents strength and loyalty. English in origin. Circa 1870. Remnants of an earlier gilding are apparent. Giving the silver metal a warm hue. The front and back of the locket have the same buckle decoration.
