19th Century Gold Collar Necklace
France, circa 1865.
Light in weight but strong in form in bright 18k gold. This 19th-century gaspipe design was the precursor to modern tubogas chains, created with a technique invented by a French jeweler in 1850’s. Strikingly similar necklaces are depicted in Henri Vever's French Jewelry of the Nineteenth Century, first published in France in 1906.
Necklace measures 15.50 inches in length. Hidden push clasp. Lays beautifully on the neck and would be great layered. Wearable and Rare.
