Early 20th Century Essex Crystal Bird Earrings
Early 20th-century Essex crystal earrings. It has a reverse carved painting of a Cornish chough bird and an admiral hood. Originally cufflinks with a later conversion, on 18k gold wires. English in origin. Circa 1900.
The Cornish Chough, once widespread around the coast of Britain, has declined since the early nineteenth century, with only about 400 pairs left. The remaining population is mainly in Wales, the Isle of Man, and western Scotland, although a larger population is present in Eire.
