Turn of the Century Tiffany and Company Pendant
American, circa 1890.
Dating to the turn of the last century, this unusual porcelain vessel was made when Tiffany was already well established as a leading American jeweler. The egg pendant is in the classic "Tiffany Blue". Vessels like this are referred to as Vinegrettes and were made to hold a piece of perfumed fabric to combat any unpleasant odors encountered while venturing out.
Made in sterling silver and porcelain, the vinaigrette realistically depicts a blackbird egg. The registration number indicates the egg was made in 1885, while the necklace was assembled sometime later.
Hanging on a silver chain with a watch fob clasp. The egg measures 1.50 inches in drop length and 1 inch wide. The chain measures 28.50 inches long.
The porcelain egg is stamped with James Macintyre, registered design number RdNo 20072, and the silver screw-top bears the hallmark T&Co.
