Victorian era Rock Crystal Locket

Victorian era rock crystal locket, in 18k gold frame. With a hand-engraved "December 1st, 1857". Lockets such as these predate photography and would have contained plaited hair of a loved one. It can be worn empty or filled with something sentimental. England. Circa 1850.
