Beautifully carved and painted Essex crystal stick pin, depicting an expressive fox in bright rock crystal. It can be worn as an accessory or displayed as a decorative piece on the wall. England. Circa 1870.

Essex crystal, sometimes referred to as a reverse intaglio, was popularized in the Victorian era and into the Edwardian era. The reverse intaglio was made from rock crystal cabochons that had been carved on the flat backside, where an image was carved in reverse and hand-painted. A tiny work of art.
