Early Victorian Cut Steel Necklace
A nice example of an early 19th century cut steel necklace. 18 floral sections in descending size and a matching push button clasp make up this glittering steel necklace. Measuring a generous 17". It is difficult for the camera to capture the dark sparkle this necklace gives. Circa 1840, found in England.
Cut steel was an effective substitution for early rose cut diamonds. Its popularity endured well into the 19th century as it was considered appropriate for second stage mourning adornment.
