Georgian Carved Fede Ring

Georgian Carved Fede Ring

Fede rings are traditionally betrothal rings with the design of clasped hands dating to the Romans. The central hard stone cameo set in what we call a collectors mount, features clasped hands in agate with two turquoise colored stones set on either end.

One stone is Odontolite while the second stone is Persian turquoise. Odontolite is a very rare stone.Odontolite is a fossilized bone that has naturally been colored in the earth to a turquoise color. Under magnification, the stone shows striations similar to what you see in ivory.
