Victorian Era "ROMA" Silver Bangle
England, circa 1880.
Wide sterling silver Grand Tour bangle. "ROMA" and decorative details in rose gold overlay. A bangle like this would have been the daytime jewel of choice for a well-appointed English woman of the 1870s and 80's.
A Grand Tour provided an opportunity to discover the cultural wonders of Europe and beyond. Popular throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, this extended journey was seen as a rite of passage for young English aristocrats.
The bracelet measures approximately 7.5 inches in inner circumference and 1.25 inches wide.
